Finalists announced for the WSA Film Music Composition Contest 2025Film Fest Gent has revealed the three finalists of the 2025 WSA Film Music Composition Contest: Neville Bharucha (India/Germany), Théo Cascio (France) and Bongseob Kim (South Korea) have been selected for their original symphonic scores for a dramatic excerpt from David Lynch’s acclaimed film The Elephant Man (1980). The winner of the World Soundtrack Award for Best Original Composition by a Young Composer Powered by Vienna Synchron Stage will be announced during the World Soundtrack Awards Ceremony & Concert on 15 October 2025.

Volker Bertelmann and Daniel Blumberg honored at the 25th World Soundtrack AwardsGerman composer Volker Bertelmann was named Film Composer of the Year for the second time in his career. The Discovery of the Year Award went to British composer Daniel Blumberg, who has gained international attention for his impressive work for The Brutalist. Other awards were presented to Theodore Shapiro (Television Composer of the Year), Clément Ducol, -Camille- and Jacques Audiard (Best Original Song), Laetitia Pansanel-Garric (Public Choice Award), Lorien Testard ( Game Music Award) and Ruben De Gheselle (Belgian Film Composer of the Year (Powered by Sabam)). The Award for Best Original Composition by a Young Composer (Powered by Vienna Synchron Stage) went to Bongseop Kim.

Composition contestYoung composers are the future of the film music industry, but rarely get the chance to showcase their talent to a (non-) professional (live) audience. Therefore, the World Soundtrack Academy each year offers screen composers under the age of 36 the chance to participate in the WSA Film Music Composition Contest and win the Award for Best Original Composition by a Young Composer Powered by Vienna Synchron Stage at the World Soundtrack Awards Ceremony & Concert.
